"Movement in Sign." Digital. 2013.
For this series, I decided to explore the idea of capturing a visual language in a single frame. For those of you who do not sign, the words being expressed are “diversity,” “drive,” and “draw.” I am really proud of how this series of portraits turned out, and happy to have so many friends who let me into their world for a few minutes to explore their language.
So the other day I was at the grocery store, and I naturally bought a bunch of avocados. And I was on my way to the bakery section to go get some whole grain English Muffins when I passed the rice cakes. I never eat rice cakes because I think they are kind of bland, but I got the idea that they might be good as a replacement for toast in my avo toast.
So I grabbed them and went on my merry way of picking out various organic products and coffee flavors because I’m an adult.
At lunch the next day, I came home and made the avo cakes instead of the toast, and cut up a whole tomato on the side and put ground pepper and Hawaiian salt on top and it was so good!
It was light but I was actually filled up by the end of it. The rice cakes were salted so it tasted like you were eating chips and guacamole, which I am always a fan of. I know, I’m a genius. (not really because I’m sure I am way behind the bandwagon on this one but I just ran down 5th Ave. chasing it like it was a 1D tour bus and aggressively hopped right on it so… what?)
Here is what you need to make it:
- 2 lightly salted rice cakes (I bought Quaker)
- 1/2 small hass avocado
- 1 whole tomato
- Salt and pepper to taste
PS: I think they would also be good with salsa or fresh bell peppers. If you want a meal with more protein add 4oz. of your fav grilled lean meat/grilled tofu to this and it would also be a great addition!
Healthy on, y’all.
